WALTHAMSTOW: Teen stabbed near fun fair

A TEENAGER was stabbed and others injured after a gang fight broke out near a Walthamstow fun fair.

Neighbours were "shocked" to see as many as 40 youths, some carrying weapons, running down Clacton Road away from the St James's Park fun fair at about 6pm yesterday.

Police and ambulance crews attended and found a teenager, about 18-years-old, with head injuries and a stab wound to his back.

He was taken by air ambulance to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which were deemed not life-threatening.

A 14-year-old male was arrested at the scene for possession of an offensive weapon and assault and remains in police custody.

Police enquiries are continuing.

Today all of us who live in Clacton Road are in total shock. What happened yesterday cannot be adequately described in words. Some of us were at the fun fair in the park and just saw a mass of young boys charging up our road. People in the park were crying and screaming. The fun fair people were trying to help everyone in the park feel safe. Many of us could not get back into our homes until after 10.30pm, almost 5 hours after it all happened. Then we had to be escorted down the middle of the road by police and taken to each of our homes, all of which were taped off with police crime scene tapes. Outside my house there was a piece of evidence, with a police tag next to it. There were several more down the road. Forensic police arrived at about midnight and it was only this morning that the police tapes were taken down and we were allowed to go in and out of our houses again. Some of us who were not allowed home until late last night were lucky enough to have friends in neighbouring roads who took us into their homes until we knew we were being allowed home. If anything good came out of yesterday it was the way we all pulled together and helped each other out - unbelievable kindness from neighbours, many of whom we didn't even know by name until yesterday.

Ooh! A fair. Let's take the kids there on Bank Holiday says hubby - that will be nice.
Not in F-ing Walthamstow it wont. What a grim pathetic bunch of little twats live in this area. Nice to see the waste of an air ambulance on this situation. Good luck resident, things are only going to get worse - they breed like rats and will soon be outnumbering decent people until you cant take no more. Nuke the place!

This sort of thing would not happen in Walthamstow Village. Much nicer there - have the fair in Walthamstow Village next year.

Superted get a brain, son. Who's 'they'? You probably read The Sun.
We've lived here for years and pathetic generalisations like yours hardly help.
You'll probably find that few if any of those invloved lived in the surrounding area.

It only takes a few idiots to spoil things. Why gangs decide to turn up at a kiddies fun fair to battle each other is a mystery. Can't they just book an arena somewhere?

So the fair wasn't much fun then. Who gave permission for this event and what steps had they taken to ensure there was proper policing?
Posted by: ?????????/, e17 on 11:40am Wed 7 May 08
I attended this fair with my son who's 3 years old and from what i could tell this was a fair for children in the age bracket of 1-10yrs. why any self respecting teenager would want to hang around here trying to play the gangster is beyond me. things cannot be that bad that this is all they can do to entertain themselves on a hot bank holiday. At their age i was clubbing and chasing girls rather then trying to stab my peers was alot more fun and i'm still alive today.
Posted by: NB, buckhurst hill on 12:23pm Wed 7 May 08
well what can i say? can there not be one day where someone doesnt get stabbed or have their head kicked in! im glad we wernt there to witness this, as i did go along with my kids had a great time but personally didnt want to stay out too long because i knew that trouble would happen! i feel for the people that were stuck out presumably most who had children! i must say when we were leaving there were alot of teenagers gathered in the park and i knew it just didnt look right! makes you not want to go out at all... and it really shouldnt feel like that!
Posted by: Clacton Road person, Walthamstow on 1:15pm Wed 7 May 08
They have the fair there every year but I don't recall any trouble before.
Youth crime is a serious problem in many places but I doubt if Boris Johnson has any answers. Lack of decent role models and hope for the future don't help.

I live on Clacton Road and was there when it first happened. It was very distressing to see the boy on the ground unable to get up....semi consiouse and as I thought at the time fighting for his life........this was after all some obliviouse womens child. I resent the comments made by superted if you despise walthamstow so much get the hell out and I dont appriciate you likening members of my community to rats ...I dont know anyone in my community who has had seven children like the know infamouse Karren matthews.
Its really hurtfull to know that people like you still live and breath imagine I see your son at a bus stop there will be no preconceptions in my mind of him and thats the way he will spend the rest of his life free from unwarrented judgement. When you see my black 13 year old son at a bus stop who may I add has just returned from a scholarship in japan you will hold preconceptions of him and this is what, because of the existence of people like you he will have to endure eternally.
but as Paul said you have made a grave geralisation which only succeeds in isolating sectors of our community...how can you say that they waisted an air abulance can you gaurentee the boy was not innocently ambushed.

The street is ussually a quiet and pleseant place ive lived there for 8 years and nothing of the sought has happened before I understand the perpertrators were from priory court, oliver close and other estates none of which are in the locality of clacton road.

Well all of as on clacton Road black, white and asian supported each other through what was a very distressing time for me it brought home the truth about what we are living in the midst of and I remember whilst watching this boy on the floor, what had happened so wrong in his life and the lives of his perpertrators to have comulated into such an event.

Instead of makeing you vile comments seperted.

Please join me and Pray for change

To be honest I would also say that "they" breed like rats. I wouldn't say that "they" suggests a particular race, religion or ethnicity though - more a blanket term for all the layabout scumbags who can't be bothered to get jobs and continually pump out useless kids that they don't actually know how to raise.

You londoners need to get a grip, in fact you english need to sort your country out. This was blacks again, showing off their guns. England and london should be white.

I just think its great that a bnp councillor is now on the london assembly, might wake a few people up. Do you english know what blacks and asians are doing to your country? If you dont then you deserve to be gunned down and raped coz thats what these people do, give it 20 years and it will be chaos. Vote bnp

Its jamaican men that are causing all the trouble anyway, and african, and asian, actually all non whites. Every country has criminals but why do us brits and irish have to take on foreign ones. Do NOT vote for the main 3 parties ever again. BNP all the way.

Please don't call me ignorant until you can spell and piece together a coherent sentence.

Also, nice to see that you're posting under different names to try to make your vapid comments seem more valid - well done!

admittedly my grammar and spelling was less than perfect...I was at work and rushing to get my point across, don’t want to be seen at work bickering on the internet with the likes of you....maybe you have all the time in the world to check your grammar whilst sitting in your grubby little internet cafe on Leyton high road......no wonder leyton looks so neglected if creatures such as your self inhabit the area.

Cant imagine someone like you working youve probably just rolled out of your sty

Funny how in your first post you were complaining about prejudices and preconceptions, because now you're guilty of exactly the same pathetic narrow-mindedness. Just goes to show what a clueless hypocrite you truly are.
Posted by: laverne belle, clacton road on 4:12pm Thu 8 May 08

Low and behold ...you did get what I was rattling on about....weh hey!!!!! If you got the jist of what I said in my first post what was the point of your rude response and why are you so bothered with my spelling, I fear making any further spelling mistakes lest you have a seizure of some sought, don’t you have anything else that merits your time? I’m certainly not worried about my spelling and neither is my employer I still get my £46,000 a year.

Look into the situation how can I pre judge you I don’t know anything of you I don’t no what race or religion you are come to think of it I don’t know what sex you are...... I presume you are a man from your tone. How could I therefore be prejudice against you if I don’t even know what you are? I'm not that ignorant to have made my mind up that you don’t work you could be writing these post from your plush office in the city for all I know....I just think you’ve been very spiteful and Ive been spiteful back. For your information I have no judgement on you other than your bloody rude.

Because of you weve gone right of an important issue.

All because you were unhappy with my grammer!

So it was a bunch of Yardies that planted the bomb in Ealing that I missed by two minutes was it?

WOW, l do not understand why there is so many rude, nasty and racist comments on this page. A serious incident happened on a bank holiday, not the first and not the last time it is going to happen and most of the comments on this page are made by adults. How are we going to show the youth of today the right way?

What a shame for a lovely sunny day with everyone having fun with there children to end like this.
I went with my children that day but after my daughter losing her phone decided to leave early and recall seeing large groups of boys hanging around in crowds.
My heart goes out to the boy hurt, and to all the boys involved i beg you all please leave this rubbish and get on and enjoy your lives, while you all can, whether you are black, white, asian or whatever.
To the lovely bnp idiot, grow up and get a life, we are one community and should respect and help each other as much as we can.
Too the idiot who wants to nuke the place i have been living in for 35 years, don`t judge people because of one stupid incident, this is one of the best areas of walthamstow.
Too all those boys out there who think it`s cool to carry weapons and be all big with there boys, remember you only live once and be safe.

I think that people who agree with the bnp need to be wiped off the face of the earth, because you are scum. You have no right to tell people where people should or shouldn't be. As far as I'm concerned, you are not God, you do not have that right and if you knew anything, you would know that Africa was where civilisation started. The first human being was from Africa, everything and everyone originates from Africa and white people were there afterwards, so you lot need to recognise. This comment is coming from somebody who is not only younger than all of you adults but who is also half white and half black. What's your comment now? By the way, my heart goes out to the family and the young boy who suffered at the fair and I reckon bnp people need to know in about 20 years time, everyone is going to be mixed race, one way or another, so get used to seeing COLOUR because we're not going anywhere.

Stu, well it's obvious that you are white and obvious that you are racist and I believe that you should be sent to the electric chair. I have lived in Walthamstow all my life and have never come across anybody as ignorant and narrow-minded as you are. Instead of attacking all people that are not white, we should be attempting to make a difference and assist with making changes within the community. I am 21 years old and was racially attacked by white youth, in a place that was out of London for absolutely no reason what-so-ever. The way you wrote "you english" made me chickle, if you don't like US ENGLISH, then how about considering moving elsewhere to resolve your own issues instead of trying to attack black people, because that seems like the most common sense approach, not only Walthamstow, but every part of london is becoming more integrated, blacks, whites, asians, indians, africans, polish, somlians, romanians, portugese, russians, chinese, australian, korean, japanese... So you see where I'm coming from. I suggest you watch what you say, especially if you talk like this out loud and in public because not everybody appreciates it, not that you really care, but I suggest you watch yourself, because I fell out with a friend who was half chinese and half white for slippin up and making a comment about black people and later I heard that somebody did them harm. So be careful.

What a bad-tempered thread! Rav, Saki, I so agree with you.

Sky/Skyla, please get a grip. You're not doing any good by issuing veiled threats and wanting people to be electrocuted. I'd like to think you were a BNP member trying to cause trouble, but unfortunately it doesn't sound as if you are.

We don't need aggression or threats from anyone. The growing problem of gangs is something that has to be tackled, by families as well as police. Kids are killing each other - luckily not this time.

Stu, people of all backgrounds live pretty peacefully here in Walthamstow - rather more than in Belfast, I'd say. I wish you, and Belfast, the same good-natured harmony that I encounter here every day.
Posted by: Sky and Skyla, east london on 7:09pm Sun 11 May 08
Thoughtful, it was not a threat, it was simply a word of advice. As you obviously saw in my previous comment, I know somebody who was harmed due to racial comments, so it was simply a word of advice and apologise to anybody who took it the wrong way. As for me writing that he should be sent to the electric chair, I am entitled to my own opinion, if he is allowed to think that England and London should be all white, then I am allowed to think what I like. I HATE RACIST people, plain and simple. Also the racial slur that Stu made was that people in gangs and people who promote all of this violence are people of colour and other ethnic origins, but yet he didn't mention that the kkk lynched black people or that people from england like the vikings went all around plummeting villages, raping people and so forth, or did he 4get that white people did that to ethnic groups? So b4 u talk about bone idle threats, u should take into accord what he wrote, because its alright for him to voice his opinions in a racist way but its not alright for me and skyla to do it.
