Former Gunner Groves arrested
FORMER Arsenal midfielder Perry Groves has been arrested for abusive behaviour in his home town of Colchester.
The 43-year-old, who won the league twice and the league cup once with Arsenal between 1986 and 1992, was handed a fixed penalty notice after being arrested in the Essex town last week.
A police spokeswoman said today: "Police issued a 43-year-old man from Colchester with a fixed penalty notice for a Section 5 public order offence of using abusive and insulting words and behaviour, likely to cause harassment."
Groves (pictured) now plies his trade as a sales representative and football pundit but he established himself as a firm fans favourite during his time with the club.
In his autobiography two years ago, Groves claimed he, Paul Merson and Tony Adams were "members of the serious drinking squad" at Arsenal.
Back in 1990 he was fined two weeks' wages for a late-night boozing session before a game with teammates Nigel Winterburn and Steve Bould.
